Thankfulness Leads to Happiness

Sam goes back to school on Monday, and everything goes bad especially when Mandy (a girl that likes him) starts hanging out with Simon, a guy from his class and it makes him remember Alicia Todds, a girl that he left behind in his old neighborhood when his mother died. Moreover, Sam and Lily think of contacting Max, the guy that lives near the bookstore and they knew that Allan had phoned him before disappearing; he told then that Allan had told him about his vacation because he was hoping to do business down in the United States, also, Sam´s father left a box, which was lined with a blue, white and red flag with a yellow star; the moment he handed it to Sam a coin and a token fell out (exactly what Sam was looking for). There was a book called "The Book of Time", which they discovered that it only showed information about the places the person that traveled was, they found out that his father was a prisoner of Dracula in the time of Vlad Tepes; this lead to Sam traveling again...A cavity that Allan had left as well served to transport objects; after a while, he ends up realizing that he traveled to the wrong time and place and all of his doubts about it were confirmed the moment he met Hans Baltus, a guy that offered him shelter when Sam helped them when they were in trouble.  He found out that he was a painter and he had a daughter named Yser; but he also had hope that the coin he had to use was close just like his previous trips...

After Sam talked to Lily about his adventure they didn’t talk as much and later on the author mentions the reason; "During that time, Aunt Evelyn seemed to take Lily everywhere-- the movies, swimming, shopping-- probably hoping her daughter would forgive her for being away so much. Finally on Thursday, long after school was over, Lily came into Sam´s bedroom with her book bag on her shoulder. "I’m sorry, Sam, I didn´t think my mother would ever let me go! (Prévost 111)" This quote was sort of impacting from my point of view, due to the fact that it’s true and if someone truly analyzes it, they will realize that is the sad truth.

Some parents think that they can be absent in the majority of the child’s lives and then compensate them with material stuff and everything will be fine, but the truth is that maybe teenagers will say that if they give them something they will be happy but what they really mean is that the want their parents present in their achievements and failures even if they don’t admit it. The saddest part is when they get to the point when they really don’t care and want everybody near them except their parents because that big is their resentment that they cant even look at them with any love in their heart. When this children’s parents realize what they have done is going to be too late and they will already lost their child’s; but there are cases were the parents react and due everything that is in their power to make the things right; sometimes they are able to do it, but sometimes they can only get some of the love that had back but the wounds that they left in their son or daughter´s heart will always be there. The eyes of the victims will always remember the parents their mistake and there is nothing they can do about, just learn to live with it or let them consume them...

The following quote was mention when Hans was introducing his passion for art to Sam and a deep moment came in; "Since my wife´s death, I haven´t had the heart to train young people as much...Now I spend more time mixing pigments and oils than standing in front of my easel! That´s why this contest is so important for me. I need to prove that Hans Baltus isn´t finished-and prove it to myself as well! (Prévost 135)" This quote had something that made me stop and read it again; a bunch of thoughts came in to play when it made me remembered live experiences and things I have heard of people around me. Usually, when someone is going through a rough moment, they tend to keep everything they feel, they think to themselves; but when they decide to get back to the world and show who they really are is something that requires courage and bravery because not everyone is capable of doing it. Maybe, the author wanted for people to connect with Sam because almost in every trip they give him an indirect message for his situation because they are always telling him that he is brave, people can get better after a tragedy and stuff like that. Maybe the book wants to inspire people to think that there are people facing worse situations and that everything is possible you just need a leap of faith and hope and the rest will come along.

In brief, there is just a few pages left to finish my book and as I already mention this novel is not going to end with the appearance of the Allan but just taking Sam to new and dangerous adventures. The true question is how is the author going to end? Maybe he is going to end it in the interesting part of telling us really shocking that is going to turn everything upside down or even being direct and telling us something about eh next sequel. This two phrases I took out of the book, really left me thinking and made me feel strong emotions especially thankful for what I have, because there are people that doesn’t have the same luck that I have, I know that this is what parents always tell their child’s, but most of us don´t listen because we don’t believe its important because there is nothing to compare it to, and its normal to the people that have everything But when someone shows us a real example or something that its close to reality, really leaves a mark on our conscience and this makes us be more aware of what we have…
