Moreover, vikings arrived at the little island were Sam was situated, he ran and ran
until he got to the library were he sealed the entry and unexpectedly he found
another coin and a stone, exactly as the ones located in his father´s basement; he knew
that he arrived there with a coin so he inferred that he will go with one
too...this time he end up in the time period of World War II. When he first
arrived, he helped a French corporal but hours later the Germans started to
bomb and in that moment Sam found another coin and statue, this one took him
Ancient Egypt...He spent quite a few days there, and even started to think that
he was on vacations with his friends; but at the end he managed to transport
back home with his cousin Lily´s help. Surprisingly, Lily told him that it was
Sunday, and he left a Saturday, that meant that he was only gone one day Sam
and Lily tried to find out more about the stone that was able to move Sam from
place to place to see if they can find Allan. Both decided to leave this a
secret because they thought that there was no one they could trust especially
Lily´s mother and step-dad.
When Sam was situated in World War II in
the book, the corporal he saved gave him a medal, but the form he does it, its surprisingly
impacting; "Its the Médsille Militaire, boy. Only the bravest get it.
Maybe I´ll get one myself, who knows?...The way it is, it’s not worth anything,
but I thought it would protect me. You´ve got to hang on to something when
you´re under fire. And the proof it´s good luck is that you came along."
(Prévost 48) ) I
saw this quote as inspiring and full of hope, especially for Sam; he has suffer
a lot and those words probably meant a lot to him. Maybe this was like a father
figure telling him that he is brave and with that he could always have
something to hold on to. I know many kids that in the moment of need and desperation,
the best thing that you can do is give them advice as if you were like a model
or icon that he looks up to you. In that moment od adolescence the only thing
that teenagers want is for someone to pay attention to them and recognize what
they do right, maybe for Sam, being a kid that has many problems because his
dad can even gained control of himself and being bullied by Monk, having no
mother and then someone came and tells him that when he feels like he is
falling down, he can hold on to a medal that represents bravery and courage. I can conclude, that Sam felt really happy and recompensated for all of his work that his father was never even around to see it, also, he must have felt secure and protected even if it was a little thing like a medal.

| Egypt |
When Sam was still in
Egypt, he met a guy name Ahmosis, he was able to connect with him with him of
his father, because Ahmosis father was like Allan, but he said that his father
before he died left him with a very strong message "I know that you would
like to follow me, Ahmosis. I am asking you not to do so. There are too many
dangers and temptations, too much misery and sadness. Take a wife, have
children, watch them grow up. Serve your gods and your pharaoh, cherish those
around you. Nothing else deserves it, and nothing else is worth it. If you knew
one hundredth of what I know, Ahmosis, nothing would mean anything to you
anymore. Neither the past nor the future. You would have only what I have: a
dusty present and the taste of infinite failure. And that is not what I want
for you my son” (Prévost 79) Eventhough, kids
have to learn from themselves, parents are always going to be there to tell
them their experiences, so when Ahmosis told Sam that, he imagine that it was
his father, Allan telling him the same thing. This quote made me feel kind of
confused, because it’s something that my parents are always telling me, and of
course I receive it with the children perspective, but now that I analyze it
from the parent point of view, it kind of makes sense. The world we face today,
is not an easy one to live, what is good is wrong and what is wrong is good… so
when the phrase mentions that we have to live our lives fully, to enjoy it
while we can because every time is changing and maybe that change is bad.
Finally, this quote was very impacting and it truly got to me due to the fact
that it talks about something that I don’t like to hear and discussed, but I
know is true and that it exists.
What I enjoy about this book
is that it makes history interesting but at the same time it uses pathos as I
explain with the first passage. Furthermore, I predict that Lily and Sam are
going to be able to find Allan, but in a remote place anywhere in the world;
but until they do that they are going to have to face serious problems and the
trips they are going to make until the find the exact place were Allan is, are
going to be very complicated. Moreover, Sam´s grandmother knows about this mysterious
trips of his son, but maybe when she finds out that Sam and Lily are traveling
as well, she is going to preoccupied and tell them everything about the coin
and the statue, the elements they have to use to be able to travel, but she is
going to explain that they need more experience before doing such things. The
problem is that I know that this is a trilogy, so the author wouldn’t like to
put the ending in the first book, so when I finish I still will have the
question what happen to Sam´s father, where did he go?
